Shift Your Focus: From Your Limitation to God's Capable Power

Every time God leads us to do something, we start highlighting all the reasons we are not the best candidate. "Oh I can't sing like this person", "no one will ever read what I write", "I'm more laid back, and this requires me going out there", "I am not experienced enough", "I don't have the right equipment", "what will they think of me?", and the plethora of excuses we can find.

Well, I have come with news that may inspire you - YOU ARE NOT ALONE. So many people feel the same way today, and there are many examples in scripture. Let us take for example, Moses. When God called Moses to lead the Israelites out of Egypt (a monumental undertaking by the way), the first thing Moses did was to question who he was, he questioned whether or not he could really do what God told him to do. Moses said to God, ‬“Who am I, that I should go to Pharaoh, and that I should bring the sons of Israel out of Egypt?” [Exodus 3:11]. Moses went on and on with finding excuses until he shared his physical impediment - he was slow of speech and slow of tongue [Exodus 4:10]. Moses' limitation was real. It wasn't just made up, like many of ours because of fear. You know what I mean? But guess what? Even when there is a real weakness, God can do His work in you. He still used Moses to accomplish His plans.

Aren't we alot like Moses, God tells us to do something and the first thought is about SELF. We look at our gifts, or lack there of, our past, our sins and all our limitations, disqualifying ourselves from the call. Yet, we will quote so confidently on our social media platforms and in our conversations, "God qualifies the called", but we don't believe it. If we did, even if we look at our limitations, it is not in a way to say we are incapable, but in a way that will bring honour to God, since it is He who works in us through His Spirit. It is not by might - talents, gifts, strengths, but it is by the Spirit of God. He has never asked mankind to do anything in his own strength, and He won't start with you.

If God leads you in an area you think you are not good enough for, see it as an opportunity for Him to show forth His capable power. When tempted to focus on your incapabilities, SHIFT! Choose to focus on God's capability instead.
