In Titus 2, the Apostle Paul gives Titus a clear vision for how the community of faith should grow in spiritual maturity and practical holiness. He outlines how different groups; older men, older women, young women, young men, and even workers, are to reflect the Gospel in their everyday lives.
In verse 3, Paul focuses on older women, urging them to live in a way that is reverent, not given to gossip or excessive drinking, but able to teach what is good. But this teaching isn’t simply about skills or domestic duties; it’s deeply spiritual. It’s about modeling godliness, living a life that others can follow, and then imparting that wisdom to the next generation.
Here’s the powerful truth: Older women cannot teach what they themselves have not yet learned or lived. Reverence; a deep respect for God and His ways, must be developed first in their own lives. Their lives become the curriculum. Their example becomes the lesson plan. Then, from a place of lived faith and holy character, they are empowered to build up, encourage, and guide the younger women in the faith.
To younger women: know this: your calling may not always look normal. It may not fit the world’s expectations or even your own plans. But you are not doing it alone. The same Spirit who raised Jesus from the dead lives in you (Romans 8:11). That means you are equipped, empowered, and enabled to do the hard, the holy, and the not-so-natural things. Everything won’t always come naturally; loving when it’s hard, forgiving when you’ve been hurt, choosing patience over impulse, or faith over fear. But the Spirit makes it possible.
This is why godly mentorship matters. God places older women in your life to walk with you, to encourage and guide you; not from a place of perfection, but from a place of having walked with God long enough to say, “He is faithful.”
So, let us embrace the Titus 2 call:
• Older women, grow in reverence, walk in wisdom, and be ready to teach what is good.
• Younger women, lean into that guidance and trust that God’s Spirit is at work in your becoming.
You were never meant to walk this journey alone. God surrounds you with His Spirit and His people to see His purpose in you fulfilled.
